The Jaw Mechanic was created after providing several talks on TMJ treatments which always started with the simple phrase “I work on the mechanics of the jaw.” One day someone said, “You’re a jaw mechanic!” This phrase stuck with Melissa after using it casually with friends & she knew she should claim this cool title before someone else did.
Melissa MacIntosh graduated from the Canadian College of Massage & Hydrotherapy in May of 2018. In the 4 plus years prior to beginning her education in Massage Therapy, Melissa put her passion to help others in working as a Continuing Care Assistant. Her dedication to the health and well-being of others, in combination with her love for sports and fitness, led her to this new pathway in health care.
Melissa became a trained & certified TMJ specialist in June of 2019, in which she has gained a huge passion for this specialty and has been working to build a client base. https://thejawmechanic.ca/treatment-of-jaw-pain/
She is also skilled in the treatment of head & neck-related conditions, as well as myofascial release which can be quite beneficial for a number of conditions. Head and neck related conditions play a big role in the health of the jaw. https://www.drtmjsleepapnea.com/tmj/symptoms/neck-pain/
Melissa has a result-oriented approach to treatments. Her goal is to treat the root of the cause while looking at the surrounding tissue that may also be contributing to the cause. She looks at the body as a whole, remembering that everything is connected.
Cupping or Gua Sha may be used within your treatment to aid in better treatment results. Melissa will add these into treatments at her discretion and with your consent.
